Cool Mornings and Sleep

After a few days of sweltering heat, it feels so good to be able to enjoy my coffee on the patio in the cool of the morning! It will also make day-sleeping easier. Dan got home from work at 6:00 am and fell asleep fast. The poor man had only 3 hours of sleep yesterday and had to wake up at 9:00 am and then go to Tillamook for a pre-construction meeting. I thought he was going with someone else doing the driving but found out this morning that he had gone alone! Then went from there, straight to the job site!!! It's a really good thing that he doesn't work tonight.

Cooling Off

Wish we were still at the coast! It was perfect and the kids enjoyed the pool and the beach. Oh why did we come home!

The send-off!

We saw the happy couple off at the airport on Monday. Both sets of parents showed up at the airport with our luggage and fake (but realistic) boarding passes and told them we were coming too! We also toted some of the signs used to direct people to the wedding so we gave folks something to gawk at! Our kids don't know what lies ahead with two sets of parents who like mischief!

The beginning...

Saturday it began and now there's another Mrs. Kluver. It was an incredible evening that could not have happened without so many people's help! Thank you to all! Because we didn't take pictures ourselves (I lost my camera in the hub-bub and found it buried in the kitchen the next morning), if you have pictures you are willing to share, please email them to me! The professional ones will be done in 6 weeks we hear.

Making another memory

Reading Karla's blog about the tent trailer sleep over reminded me of Saturday night when Grandpa Dan and the kids spent the night in the gazebo. I snuck out there in the morning to take pictures and bring hot cocoa in case they were already up. I stayed out late with them roasting marshmallows for Smores but I slept in the house--I'll say it's because of my bad back, but let's face it...I'm a whimp!

The Final Countdown

The wedding is now just around the corner. Today we have the carpet cleaned, Dino is coming to put up more outdoor lights and bring wedding supplies, I'll pick up some more tikki torches, etc. After Dan gets a few hours of sleep (he just got home at 6:30 am), we'll do a final edging of flower beds and mow. We're in the home stretch and the 10-day weather forecast shows SUN! Whew!

Update on Mom: The Care meeting my sis attended said the expected time in the care home is 4-6 weeks. She's working hard, through the pain, on her physical therapy and Gil is hanging in there, although it's been hard on him too.

Catching up

I've neglected the blog but that's because I've spent so much time on the phone to folks. Immediate, if not urgent, information and questions still are handled best with a personal contact.

That being said, I depend on being able to read others blogs to see what is happening in their lives. :>) So here's a recap of ours.

On July 4th, we had over 50 folks from church here for an Ice Cream Social and to welcome our new pastor, Jim Pike. It was after that function I received word about my mom's hip injury and flew to Spokane to help. Right now my sister and her son are there. We have a big family and several of us are able to take turns being there because Gil needs someone to be with him while mom's in the rehab care center.
And now, it's only 10 days until Randy's wedding! Good friends K & N loaned Dan a tux so he's ready to go, I finally figured out what I'm wearing too. Today I'm trying to find some pictures of Randy in college and figure out why my scanner isn't working to send them to Gina's mom who is putting together a slide show of the kids. I had a pile of them but where did I put those things? It's probably too late to worry about this anyway.

Moving Day

Mom is moving from the hospital to a rehab center/care home today. We're packing her up and will settle in to new surroundings within the hour. I'll notify those of you that might visit. :>)

Hello from the Hospital

I should tell you the story of "Holly the Hero" along with this picture. My step-dad, Gil, is VERY hard of hearing and his hearing aid is broken. Mom fell outside on the deck and lay there yelling for Gil but he couldn't hear her from inside the house. Holly, their Alaskan husky, heard her though and bugged Gil until he thought she had to go outside and in the process discovered mom. Of course 911 was called and she was transported. Mom said she will never again complain about Holly's shedding!

Spokane

It was a quick decision, but there was no question that I needed to make a trip to Spokane when I found out that my mom fell and broke her hip Saturday evening. It was not only our concern for my mom, but also my 93 year- old step-dad who is fragile. Sunday morning I hopped a plane (it was a small little prop one-I hate flying on those) but made it here before mom came out of surgery. She's doing as well as can be expected and I'll be able to take Gil to his physical therapy and to get his hearing aid fixed. That's another issue--he can't hear so when the doctors need to give information, someone needs to hear. Today Gil's daughter and husband brought in a laptop so mom can check email and it's convenient for me to be able too as well. I'll keep the blog updated as possible.
